In 1985, she fled to Europe and after some time Rajneesh accused her of arson, wiretapping, attempted murder, and mass poisoning.

In October 1986, she arrested in West Germany and raised many charges against her. And later in 1986, Sheela pleaded guilty to attempted murder and assault for her role in the attack and was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison.

In addition, she fined $470,000. She was sent to the Federal Correctional Institution in California. In December 1988, Sheela was paroled on good behavior after 39 months of her 20-year sentence.

Later, she moved to Switzerland and purchased two nursing homes. In 1999, she convicted by a Swiss court to plot to kill US federal prosecutor Charles Turner in 1985 and she found guilty of the equivalent Swiss charge and then she was sentenced to time served.

Sheela did an art exhibition at the Zurich Cabaret Voltaire with David Woodard and Christian Kracht in the year 2008.
